Summer Card Camp Week 3 Day 3

So I have decided that next time I take an online class, I am going to have to take off work and cancel all family activities, lol!  I simply don't have enough time to play and participate as much as I want to!!  I did manage to make a card for Wednesday's homework though and was inspired by Kim Jackson and her water colouring and dry embossing.  I started with 3 distress markers and scribbled them right on to my craft mat then spritzed that with water.  I also spritzed a piece of water colour paper and then, with a paintbrush, water coloured the distress inks over the entire panel starting with dusty concord, shaded lilac and finishing up with broken china.  I watered the ink down a lot as I wanted a very soft ombre effect.  I spritzed the panel with pearlized water and dried it with my heat gun.  Next I ran it through my cuttlebug using an embossing folder from Lifestyle Crafts.  I did the same technique on the die cut label.  I die cut a butterfly and stamped a background using an antique brocade stamp from Hero Arts in sweet plum ink.  To give the butterfly and the label some definition, I sponged on some antique linen around the edges.  I also used sketch # 2 for this week, but I had to flip it because of the way I had coloured my background.  The label and the butterfly are popped up.  I have had so much fun taking this class and can't wait to see what Jennifer and Kristina come up with next.  I am hoping to find some time so that I can check out the galleries and see what everyone else has been creating.  Anyway, I am off to work today.  Happy Friday and thanks for looking :)

Summer Card Camp 2 Week 3 Day 2

Oh my gosh, 2 posts in one day, woo hoo!!!  Back with another card that I made from today's class.  Today one of the lessons was embossing die cuts and I was so inspired Jennifer's first card, that I cased it changing things up just a little.  I absolutely love the prim poppy die cut by memory box.  It is so delicate and I love Jennifer's tip to die cut 2 pieces of cardstock glued together and that is what I did.  Worked like a charm!  I used more of the beautiful memento luxe inks and clear embossed them.  I embossed the poppy image 3 times and the butterflies only once.  I also embossed the sentiment using the rich cocoa ink and clear embossing powder.  I popped my embossed panel up over the aqua mist panel.  Can't wait to see the gallery.  I haven't visited it in a few days.

I need to clean up my crap room (affectionately named, lol!)  My hubby went into last night and told me it looked like a hoarders room!!!  Yikes!  OK, he MIGHT have a point, but I haven't found a way to be creative without being messy, have you?

Anywho, here is my card for today's class:

supplies:
cardstock:  kraft, white, aqua mist
ink:  memento luxe - lilac posies, sweet plum
rich cocoa, versamark
die cut:  prim poppy by memory box
embossing folder:  lifestyle crafts

Summer Card Camp 2 Week 3 Day 1

Yippee!!  I am excited to be back playing along with the online card class that I am taking.  I was having withdrawals, lol!!  I am not a purple person, so I was a little nervous about the colour combo for this week, but after taking some deep breaths and realizing that I had just bought a whole bunch of the beautiful new memento luxe ink pads (occupational hazard for working in a scrapbook store, lol!!),  I felt a lot more comfortable with it.  I went with sketch 3 and kept it simple, but I am pleased with how it turned out.  When I struggle with a colour combo, I tend to just use little bits or strips of the colours.  I find that helps.  Here is my card:

supplies:
ink: aqua mist (pti), memento luxe - rich cocoa
lilac posies, sweet plum
paper: marshmallow, kraft (bazzill)
aqua mist (pti) mme limetwist
bakers twine WRMK (we are memory keepers)
stamps: MME the sweetest thing
sentiment: hero arts
scallop border punch: SU
sequins

August Card Class

How was everyone's weekend?  Ours was good.  Today we attended the Christening of the sweetest baby boy!!  He is adorable and was as good as gold.  He is the baby of some long time friends of ours and we got to visit with lots of other old time friends and do some catching up!

I have my card samples up at the store for my August card class.  As usual I am keeping them simple.  I did do a sort of artsy one using distress ink pads because I was very inspired by a card that the very talented Jennifer McGuire made here: http://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2013/07/video-watercolor-stamp-your-story-blog-hop-giveaway.html  If you haven't checked out her blog, do it now!!  She makes it look oh so easy and I just love her stuff!!

Anyway, tomorrow is Monday and it is back to the old grind stone.  Now that my samples are made for my class, I am hoping to find time to play in the final week of the online card class that I am taking!  I hope to be back soon with some more new cards.  Have a great week!

Ombre Embossing

Woo hoo!  I am back with another card for today's online summer card camp 2 class.  This time I am trying Amber Kemp-Gerstel's technique of ombre embossing!  I have never tried that before, but I love how it looks.  I started with a large sentiment from Papertrey Ink and used 3 different coloured embossing powders from various companies (see below) over the image that I had stamped in versamark.  I kept this very clean and simple, but I like how it turned out.  I added a touch of brown glitter trim to make it pop a little!  Again, sorry for the bad lighting.  It is 10.30pm and I am in the basement in my crap room:(

Thanks for looking and your kind comments.

Summer Stamp Camp 2 Week 2 Day 2

Woo hoo, I'm back with my second post for today.  This card uses emboss resist again but in a different way than my card earlier.  I stamped my images (2 step stamping) with pigment ink, then stamped the solid images in versamark on top and heat embossed using clear embossing powder.  I then took a distress marker (tumbled glass) and went around the outside of my image and using a water brush, water colored the image to give it a soft glow.  I had to make my card 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 because I smudged the top of my water color paper, ugh!!!  I hate when I do that!!!  Also, it looks like I should have used a different brown ink pad, as that one looks a little washed out :(

Super fun class and I am REALLY enjoying it!!  Thanks for looking and have a wonderful Tuesday!!

Sorry for the bad photo, I tried to take a photo outside, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I am stuck with a bad photo in my dark crap room!!  It is also hard to see the shine of the embossing.  Oh well, c'est la vie!!

Summer Stamp Camp Week 2 Day 1

Good morning!  I am back this morning with my card from yesterday's class.  We were given 3 new fun sketches and a beautiful new colour combo!!  I went with the round shaped card, but I changed mine into a blossom.  I did some emboss resist (a technique that I love) and then sponged on some Tim Holtz distress inks!  White embossed my sentiment, from Simon Says Stamp onto the vellum, popped that up and added some sequins!  I love sequins and I have a big tub full of them in every colour, lol!   I think I will be incorporating a shaped card into my next card class that I teach!

I can't wait to see what everyone else came up with for this challenge and also to see what the girls have in store for today's class!

Summer Card Camp 2 Thanks Card

I'm back with another quick CAS card from the online summer card camp 2 class.  On Saturday there were some bonus color combo's to choose from and I chose the yellow, pale pink, brown, white and black combo.  I left off the black.  I also used a sketch from the first day of class by Jennifer McGuire.  There is no stamping on my card today.  I used a die cut from memory box.  This came together pretty quick and I will be using this sketch again and again!

I had one of my dearest friends come and visit this weekend whom I haven't seen in over 22 years, so I didn't have any time to play.  We were too busy yapping and catching up, lol!  It was awesome!!!!

Anyway, here is my card:

supplies:
marshmallow, espresso cardstock
Teresa Collins - Summer Stories
My Minds Eye - Collectable
die cut - memory box

Stamp Camp 2 Day 4 - 10 minute card challenge!

YIKES!!  Today's challenge for the Stamp Camp 2 card class was to make a card in 10 minutes or less!  Gulp!  I have never attempted one of these challenges before.  I always have precut and scored card bases, so I reached for a white one and then a scrap of white cs that I cut to 5 1/4 x 4.  I also always have a drawer of pieces that have already been die cut so I pulled out a sprig with leaves on it.  Next, I picked up the washi tape that was sitting on my desk that just happened to match the colors for this weeks challenge!  (Score!)  I sprayed the  die cut with Heidi Swapp color shine.  Now at this point I said to myself, you know fine that leaves are not the color of Georgia peaches, but green is not an option, so peach leaves they are, lol!  I adhered my die cut to the white panel and thought I should pop this panel up and reached for my tape runner, put adhesive all over the panel and stuck it to the card base.  DANG IT!!!!  I just said I wanted to pop the panel up!  Argh!  I reached for my sentiment from a set that was still sitting on my desk from a card the other day, but in my haste my impression was not perfect, so I re-inked my stamp and stamped over the image........ DANG IT!!!  It was blurry!!!  All the time I am watching the stop watch ticking away.  Time to start over.  Luckily I know what I am going to do at this point and everything was still out.  The only thing is at this point I had to use a different die cut, which I feel is too big for my card, but it is what it is.  Not thrilled with my card, but not a bad effort for my first 10 minute challenge.  I came in under the limit, but it is stressful watching the seconds pass you by!  Anyway, I can't wait to see what everyone else did for the challenge.  Thanks for checking out my card!

I took a screen shot of my time but I can't figure out how to upload it!!!  My time was 7.12.  I hope it is ok to use stuff that has already been die cut.
The card above was my original card and I like this die cut better, but the sentiment is blurry, bummer!

Summer Stamp Camp 2 day 2

Hi, I am back with another card from day 2 of summer stamp camp!  I am loving this class.  I absolutely loved what Shari Carroll did with her card today and had to try the same technique with my gelato's (which I love!!)  We were to make watercolored stripes with gelato's or paint.  What a cool effect!  Are there any other stamp campers out there?

I can't wait to see what tomorrow's class brings!

I don't see a whole lot of anything else getting done around the house for the next 3 weeks, which is unfortunate as I have company coming this weekend, lol!

I actually made 2 cards, as I had so much fun with the technique.  They are both very simple and I can't wait to try this with so many other color combinations.

I am going to teach a card class at Scrapdoodles today.  My Wednesday morning ladies are a lively bunch, but a lot of fun and I really look forward to seeing them all!

Hopefully I will be back later today or tomorrow with another card.

Enjoy your day!

Summer Card Camp 2 Day 1

Good morning!  I signed up for the online card class, Summer Card Camp 2, and yesterday was the first day.  I love their classes, they are awesome.  So our 'homework' last night was to make a card using one of 3 sketches and a color combo that was chosen for us.  I didn't have time to play last night, but I came straight to my craft room this morning.  This is what I came up with.  I used some fun papers from my Fancy Pants Wonderful Day collection and also a paper from Little Yellow Bicycle's Poppy line.  I dry embossed my white panel and heat embossed my sentiment.  The circle, the butterfly and the little heart are all popped up!!  I added a little rhinestone to the butterfly and also 1 on the heart and voila, my card for today!!  This is a 3 week class and I hope to play along each day!

Here is the link to the online card classes:  http://onlinecardclasses.com/summercardcamp2/ although you have to sign up to access the classes.

I am off to check out day 2 of the class and then I am going to work.  Have a wonderful day!!

CAS(e) this sketch #35

Where did the weekend go?  How can it be Monday morning already?  I have been awake since 4am this morning, so it's going to be a L-O-N-G day!!

Since I have been awake so long, I had some time to play and I found this fun simple sketch on the CAS(e) this sketch blog and decided to play along.  I must admit, I have a 'slight' addiction with washi tape.  I just can't get enough of it!  It is so much fun to play with, so naturally that is what I reached for today, ha!  I also love the Heidi Swapp gold color shine, and that is what is 'splattered' on the card.

Anyway that is it for this morning.  I have to go and get ready for work.  Enjoy your day, even if it is Monday!

Excuse the poor lighting on the card, I couldn't seem to get it right.

Check out the CAS(e) this sketch challenge and blog here:  http://casethissketch.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/case-this-sketch-35.html

CAS Watercolored Card

Hi!  I am just popping in today with a quick little card that I cased from Jennifer McGuire.  I was inspired by a beautiful card that Jennifer made the other day and I wanted to try one for myself.  If you don't follow Jennifer McGuire, you should!  She is so talented and does AWESOME videos and tutorials!  I embossed my floral image with white embossing powder and heat set it.  Next, I spritzed my watercolor paper with water.  Then I took my distress ink pads and applied them straight onto my craft mat and gave them a little spritz with water too.  I then took a paintbrush and brushed over my embossed image.  I dried it with my heat tool and then added some pearlized water and gave that a zap with my heat tool.  Added my sentiment and mounted my panel onto a card base and voila!  A clean and simple card.  I love how the distress inks pop against the white embossing powder!  Give it a try.  Here is the card I CASED from Jennifer:  http://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2013/07/video-watercolor-stamp-your-story-blog-hop-giveaway.html

Yesterday I took 2 of my kids to the mall!  YIKES, what was I thinking?  My son needed some new clothes for college and my daughter decided she needed to come along too (she NEEDED nothing!!!)  OUCH!  Next time I think I definitely need to take one at a time, lol!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

favorite product of the week

Hi peeps!  Happy 4th of July!  Do you all have plans today?  I think hubby and I are heading downtown.  They have a boat race and a street fair with lots of different craft vendors.  Last year I picked up some pretty cool little things and I am hoping some of the same vendors will be there again today.

Anywho, every week at Scrapdoodles a different employee takes a turn at showcasing our favorite product and this week it is my turn and I chose embossing folders by Lifestyle Crafts.  I love the crisp impression that you get and they have some very cool designs!  I am a pretty clean and simple card maker, but I love texture and dimension and I can achieve that with embossing folders!  I have quite the collection and I love that they work in all kinds of manual die cut machines.  Here are a couple of close ups and you can really see the detail.

Enjoy your day, hopefully you will get to spend it with family and friends.
I will be back soon with another card to share.  Here is the link to Scrapdoodles blog: http://www.scrapdoodlesblog.blogspot.co.uk/
